But it is not just in Bertie County, the num bers are increasing across the state and the country. At press time, the lat est COVID-19 update from Albemarle Re gional Health Services shows a slight increase for cases in Bertie County. There are currently 805 total lab confirmed cases, 49 active lab con firmed cases, 734 re covered lab confirmed cases and 22 deaths. This is an increase of 28 cases in one week. North Carolina Gov ernor Roy Cooper held a press conference Tuesday afternoon to discuss the statewide increase in cases, and new measures being taken. Santa said he wanted us to collect letters for him and forward them to the North Pole for his See LEHERS, 3 LESLIE BEACHBOARD Bertie Ledger-Advance WINDSOR - An area of heavy rainfall that passed through Bertie County caused several road closures and localized flooding with mini mal damage last week. According to Windsor Mayor Jim Hoggard, approximately 7 to 7.5 inches of rain fell last Thursday in the town prompting several areas of flooding. The Cashie River flood gauge recorded the river cresting at approximately 11.6 ft. on Sat urday. At press time the river had fallen to 7.2 ft. The largest area affected was Livermon Park and Mini Zoo in the lowest areas where the ani mals are housed. N.C. Council of State races settled after final tally THADD WHITE Bertie Ledger-Advance It appears North Carolina has elected a Council of State. With all but minuscule votes reporting, the Associ ated Press has declared win ners in all Council of State races except that of Attor ney General, but it appears over as well. Some races were called on election night with Gov. Roy Cooper easily winning a second term, and Lt. Gov ernor-elect Mark Robinson grabbing a sizable victory, but others were left until the rest of the state met to do a canvass of the election. As of Tuesday, all precincts had reported and only a few were left finishing any can vass. Gov. Cooper was easily re elected with 51.5 percent of the vote, compared to just 47 percent for Republican chal lenger Dan Forrest. Cooper was tabbed on 2,834,757 bal lots compared to 2,586,531 for Forest and 60,446 for Lib ertarian candidate Steven J. DiFiore. Constitution Party Candidate A1 Pisano gar nered 20,933.
